JOHNSON CITY - James “Mike” Smith (known to his Tennessee friends as "Jimmy"), age 67, of Johnson City, TN passed away on November 21, 2015, at his home. He was born in Gastonia, NC on August 23, 1948, son of the late Bill Smith and Martha Ramsey.

He is a graduate of Frank L. Smith High School class of 1967. He was a United States Marine Corps veteran. He served our country in Vietnam. He had a heart for veterans and served at the VA Hospital in Johnson City, TN. His faith and commitment was for the military and those who served. He went out of his way to help house and comfort homeless veterans.
James is survived by his son, Billy Smith and his wife Blair of Charlotte, NC; Daughters, Sandy Smith and her fiancé Jeremiah Plummer of Charlotte, NC and Jeri Smith of Charlotte, NC; Grandchildren, Jaylen, Sophia and Holden Smith; Aunt Nancy & Carolyn; Nieces, Kerie Smith, Victoria and nephew, Dawson. Jim was also preceded in death by his sister, Donna Spurlock.
A memorial service will be held at Salisbury National Cemetery on December 4, 2015 at 1:00pm.
