GASTONIA - Richard Wayne Coleman, 34, passed away on March 29, 1983 in Gastonia. He was born on March 25, 1949 in Charlotte, NC, son of Doyle and Hilda Wilhelmina Coleman of Gastonia. He graduated from Frank L. Ashley High School class of 1967. He attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He served as a 2nd Lieutenant in the US Marine Corps in Vietnam.

Richard was a great guy that left us way too early. During football season we would endure the same wrath. Coach Carlton always called us fence post and remined us over and over again that if he wanted a fence post planted at the end of the defensive line, he would have planted them. Richard and I would get this speech about once a week during football season and one of us would always get their helmet removed without unbuckling the chin strap. Rest in peace good friend.
