KINGS MOUNTAIN - John F. Pettus, age 67, resident of Kings Mountain, NC, passed away peacefully November 15, 2016 at his home. He was born October 11, 1949 in Gaston Co. NC to the late John D. Kell Pettus and Hazel Ritch Pettus. John was a graduate of Frank L. Ashley High School class of 1967.
John retired after 35 years as a teacher with Kings Mountain District Schools, having taught at Central School and the Kings Mountain Middle School. He was a longtime member of First Baptist Church, Kings Mtn. where he was a former deacon and Sunday school teacher. He was a former member of the Lion’s Club and former member and past president of NCAE. He enjoyed volunteering with the Kings Mountain Hospital Auxillary. He was also a member of the Gardner-Webb University Alumni Association and former CODAP Volunteer of the year.
SURVIVORS: Wife of 44 years: Norma King Pettus, Kings Mtn. NC Son: Shawn Pettus and wife Amanda, Bessemer City, NC Brother: Michael Pettus and wife Sondra, Davidson, NC 2 Grandchildren: Kayla McNeilly and Alex Davis.
