William Horace Gunter

GASTONIA - William Horace Gunter, 68, of Gastonia passed away May 25, 2018. He was born June 18, 1949 in Gaston County, a son to the late Clyde F. Gunter and Rita Huggins Gunter. 

William "Bill" proudly served our country in the US Army and served in Vietnam. After his service, he served as a police officer for the City of Gastonia for over eighteen years and retired as a County Sheriff's Deputy. Bill loved his family, his friends and his community. He enjoyed spending time with his animals, being in his yard and cooking. He also enjoyed his time working with his long-time good friend Flip Dow over the years.

Bill is survived by his wife, Princess Stinnett Gunter; step-daughters, Nicole Phongsa (Boone) of Kings Mountain and Kelly Harrill of Mt. Holly; brother, Don M. Gunter; sisters, Marilyn Harper (Buck), Becky Penley, Jan Clevenger (David); grandson, Wesley Roper of Kings Mountain; step-grandchildren, Matthew, Gavin and Gabriella Rimmer of Mount Holly, Hope, Madalyn, and Elyn Phongsa of Kings Mountain and great-grandchildren, Josiah, Liam and Korbin of Kings Mountain, and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his daughter, Jennifer Dawn Gunter, brothers, Clyde F. Gunter, Jr. and Robert L. Gunter; sisters, Faye Bowen, Sylvia Gunter and Ira Gunter.

The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 pm, Thursday, May 31, 2018 at McLean Funeral Directors of Gastonia. 

A funeral service will be held at 3:00 pm, Friday June 1, 2018, at McLean Funeral Directors of Gastonia, Founders Chapel with Rev. Don Williams officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Humane Society of Gaston County.
